Twice a month I have the privilege to lead Love to Move sessions in Highworth. I am a licenced deliverer since 2020.
Love to Move - created by the British Gymnastics Foundation based on established, state-funded care programs in Japan - is a seated exercise and cognitive enhancement programme specially designed for older adults, including those living with dementia.
But it's so much more than "just exercise".
Supporting Brain and Body Together
What makes Love to Move unique is its focus on both physical movement and cognitive stimulation. The exercises use rhythm, coordination and gentle asymmetrical bilateral movements to engage both sides of the brain. In simple terms, we are helping to maintain mobility, balance and coordination while also stimulating memory and concentration. The programme integrates gentle gymnastics principles with rhythm, music and thinking tasks that support:
- Memory stimulaton
- Coordination and proprioception
- Neural connections that help daily tasks like reaching, balancing and buttoning - all fundamental to independence
Participants often surprise themselves with what they can do!
Confidence, Joy and Laughter
The changes I notice most aren't always physical. I see:
There is something powerful about moving together to music. It lifts the mood instantly. For many, it is not just about keeping active, it's about feeling part of something.
Community Matters
At Highworth Forget-Me-Not connection is at the heart of everything we do. These sessions create a safe, welcoming space where everyone can join in at their own pace.
Even though I lead other sessions elsewhere, there is something special about delivering Love to move within our own community. It feels personal, familiar, supportive.
And that makes all the difference.
Come and join us!
